SABINE the SAAB 900 Turbo

This is my second 900, but my first turbo model. I'd wanted one of these since the late 80's after watching a BBC series called 'The Paradise Club.'

The series starred Leslie Grantham as an East End gangster type and Don Henderson, as his gambling addicted disgraced priest brother. It was good honest!

The real star of the show as far as this (then) 13 year old boy was concerned, was Granthams' 900 Turbo. It looked so menacing with it's black paint, aero bodykit and three spoke alloys - how very 80's. I wanted one, and wanted one badly!

Ok, so mine one isn't an 16 valve aero (It's full pressure 8 valve turbo, 155bhp instead of the 16's 175bhp), It's not black and it doesn't have three spoke alloys (It's got late model 9000 curly alloys instead) but it is the height of 80's cool.

It was this very car (pictured left with Leslie Grantham at the wheel) that started my SAAB thing off. I wonder if F331 TPP survives? I tried to check the DVLA database this morning, but it was down - typical!

The car used in the series was the very practical hatchback (Combi-Coupe in bizarre SAAB parlance) whilst my one is the rarer, lighter, stiffer and (in my opinion) better looking (from the rear) 2 door coupe version. Both sorts are brill though.

I seem to remember the car getting blown up in the second series, but can't be sure as the BBC haven't released any 'Paradise' DVD's and I can't find any dodgy VHS to DVD copies of the second series on Ebay yet, so the mystery remains!

Ok, so I've just checked the DVLA website again and F331 TPP returns no matches. So either it was a made up plate for the series (highly unlikely) or It's returning no matches because it was blown into little pieces for art's sake around 1992, when computerisation of records and internet searches were but a glint in Bill Gates's chequebook. Shame really, as I would have liked to owned that car one day....

SABINE UPDATE!!! I haven't updated this page for a while so I feel a makeover coming on. Until then, I'll add this little snippet of information - I've owned her now for nearly a year! I bought her on the 14/10/05. I can't believe it's been that long! I'm about to create a report page, detailing all the mileage and money I've spent. It won't be that much actually as she is so reliable! Most of the money has been spent on essential service items such as filters and oil. She has had rear shocks as well and we're about to have a belt change but that's about it! Buy a Saab, they're ace!

COMBI-COUPE OR COUPE? WHICH HAS THE PRETTIEST BEHIND? YOU DECIDE, 'COS I ALREADY KNOW!! (It's the Coupe everytime)
